Problem: Kitchen Too Big

This client had a problem most clients would not consider a problem. She felt her kitchen was too large. Most would say how is that possible, well let me tell you. She felt like the space was not cohesive and and disjoined. She felt when her children were in the kitchen working on their homework and or arts and crafts they were miles away. She also hated the existing cooktop hood. The kitchen was only about 6 years old the cabinets were all wood so I thought it would be best to have them painted and add additional cabinetry to create the look and feel she desired.

Key design elements: We removed a portion of the large walk in pantry to accommodate the new island with a prep sink and seating. We removed and replaced the existing backsplash tile. We installed 2 islands one with a prep sink and seating and another one with a temperature controlled wine fridge, perfect for setting up a buffet when entertaining. We added some architectural details to the existing range hood. Installed wallpaper to the dining area to cozy things up and add some texture. We tucked the children’s things away in cabinetry with pockets doors that would make everything look neat and tidy when they were not working there. We installed a commercial size Fridge and Freezer, converted the electric cooktop to gas, added more lighting in the ceiling as well as under cabinet lighting. Our goal to create a cohesive, inviting , and functional kitchen that did not feel so cavernous was achieved.
